Olivia's 2nd Birthday!

My baby girl turned 2 today! I can't believe it! And not in the normal "where have 2 years gone" sense either. More than how can she be 2 if she's the same size Isaac and Brianna we're at only their first birthdays?!

*Again Note: There's a few years missing where we lost our entire hard drive. Also, pardon the pics of pics* *2nd note, yes, all 3 of my birth children really were born within 2 weeks of each other lol*

My favorite newborn pic of her

This is awesome! She didn't like the camera lady "tickling" her with the toy, the next photo (5 seconds later) is of a giant smile lol

Bunk Beds!

Brianna had a dream come true this weekend. She finally got the bunk beds she's been begging me for! And she had no clue. We tore apart the girls' room, Brianna saw her bed taken apart and her mattress in the hallway and wondered what was going on. We told her she can sleep on the floor. I think she thought we were serious! While bringing the pieces of the bed in from the car and putting it together we put her in charge of keeping Olivia occupied with a movie, to make sure *Olivia* didn't come upstairs. Because we made it sound like she was doing us a favour instead of trying to keep *her* from upstairs, she was happy to do it and never once came upstairs. Once we were done putting it together I called downstairs (in my normal "mommy's asking you to do a boring chore" voice) to come up and make her bed. I sat, prepared with the camera!

First sight of the bunk bed
So excited!!!

Humidity Relief

No, not a break in the weather. It hit 37C (98F) here today with the humidex (heat index I think in the US). Ewwwwwww. However, I had a light bulb moment and suddenly remembered my brother-in-law giving us a kiddie pool a couple years back. I had tried to refuse it, saying we had a perfectly good one, but he insisted since we may need it later. Well sure enough, last year our pool got a hole in it and it hit the trash. We found a similar one, but with Lee laid off, $40 is a little out of budget. I swear the kids wanted to kiss Uncle Steph's feet this afternoon LOL

Brianna wouldn't even wait for the pool to fill up!

Once she got over the initial shock of "this aint my bath!" Olivia looooved it!

Apparently "swimming" for 20 minutes is very tiring

I Suck

Not only did I post a gain on Monday (which we're just not talking about), but I've also lost track of my 30 day challenge (which I really need to catch up on!), and I've blown my diet since. I DID however, post a cool new ticker on my blog. My goal is to walk/run 100 miles by Aug 1st. And of course my still going goal is 25lbs by Olivia's birthday on July 19th. Go Me! I gotta get off this train wreck though....

The Quest For a Button

She had to run up and down the hall with only one leg in her pants for a while first

Throw the pants away and unsnap onsie....

Look! Snaps!

I know I can get this thing off!

THERE it is!!

Why do children think smashing things is funny. I mean, the stuff ends up in the garbage afterwards once it's smashed to smithereens. What so funny about losing your toys???

My almost 20 mth old eavesdrops. If I'm on the phone, she wants her ear on the other side. If I'm texting, she wants to see what I'm typing. She barely understands English, let alone reads it!

I am in love with the laminating and binding service at Staples (an office supply store). They make such pretty little books. All neat and together for my OCD tendencies.

Why is it that I live in a small house with 3 adults and 2 children, I cook most of the meals, do most of the cleaning yet I'm the only one who gets the cold. I mean, no I'm not hacking in dinner, but you'd think with all the food/household handling I do everyday that enough of my germs would be spread around that I'd be sharing the wealth of this lovely cold.

Wind and Working Out

Holy Wind Batman! I had to trek around the yard to pick up the recycling cause a huge wind gust sent both of my recycle bins off my deck and decided to ever-so-nicely empty them.

Olivia, warming up the treadmill for me....

Something Disgusting That You Do

Um.... I'll pick Olivia up and smell her butt to see if she pooped or just farted... that's all I can think of.

Apple!

Olivia's new word is apple. No one really knows where it came from since we're not huge on apples here but in the grocery store the other day she popped out with apple!

Today, Lee went to the store to get tomatoes for toasted tomato sandwiches. When he got home he put them down so he could take off his coat and shoes. Olivia runs over saying apple, apple! Grabs the bag and tried to eat the tomatoes through the bag. Apparently we need to give her some apples!

Die Cold Die!!!

Ugh! Been sick since Friday. Evil cold has also spread to Olivia who is miserable poor baby! It's not really terrible, just stuffed/runny nose and a cough but it's enough to be freaking annoying!!!!

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

We have had such a rainy September. I'm sick of it! Spring is supposed to be rainy, not fall! Grrrr.....

Brianna has started walking to and from school by herself. She's very proud of this fact. She asked yesterday if she can stop at the mall, so we had a big discussion about why the mall is not a place to "hang out" and the fact that at her age she wouldn't be allowed to anyways!

Olivia is saying more words. Her newest one is pretty. Now everything is pretty lol She's also climbing more and getting into more trouble!

Sickness....

Last week Brianna was home from school for 2 days with a nasty head cold. Olivia picked it up a couple days ago and now Lee and I are starting to feel it. I hate head colds!!! Thankfully Brianna was fine after 3 days, so hoping Olivia's almost done and Lee and I don't get much of it :( I'm soooo not looking forward to winter colds/flus!

Mont Cascades!

On Friday we went to Mont Cascades water park. We were gonna go to the new one near us but it's not done yet and it's $30 where as Mont Cascades was having a 20th anniversary sale of $10 per person.

The weather was not that great, cloudy, cool and threatening rain all day, but that just meant there was less people there, which meant the lines for the water slides were also less! I think the longest anyone waited in line was 2-3 minutes.

The water was COLD but after a few rides you got used to it fairly quickly. I'm not a big rides person (read: a big chicken lol) so I mostly hung out with Olivia. Brianna loved it. She had a great time and could go on most ride by herself if the adults wanted a break. Her favorite ride seemed to be the racing slide where up to 4 people could go down at the same time. Lee won most often cause of course he's the heaviest, but mom and Brianna won a couple too.

They had a Subway there, which was awesome cause usually parks like that have overpriced French fries and burgers and such. It was nice to get real food. We brought our own drinks and all sorts of snacks, but when one spends 6 hrs somewhere you need a meal in there too!

It started raining lightly a couple times, but really, no one noticed. After all, it was a water park! Everyone was already wet.

We managed to get Olivia to nap in her stroller, a big job in itself! She only slept for about 30 mins, but after she woke up I brought her on a kiddie slide. She seemed to like the slide, but the water was so cold I didn't bring her up again. She didn't mind lol Since the park was so un-busy, we let her run around a lot with us chasing her. She thought it was great! She loved the little sun chairs they had set up all over the place which were low so she could get in and out of them herself.

Before we even left the parking lot, Brianna wanted to know if we could come back! I'd love to if it wasn't an hour and a half away. Especially this summer while it's only $10 a person!

Olivia's 1st Birthday Party!

So I'm a week late posting this *blush*

It was a great party! Several of Lee's family came (except his parents) including all of his grandparents. Olivia actually did very well with all the new people. Lee's uncle Steven (who Olivia's never met) was actually able to pic her up and she didn't freak out!

We just visited with everyone for a while before present time. Olivia was very interested in them. She got some little fake flowers as decoration on a gift that she was madly in love with that almost outshined all the other gifts lol She tried to run away with several gifts as if someone was gonna take them from her lol

I changed her into the first birthday outfit (the same overall shorts and onsies that Isaac and Brianna wore on their first birthday) for cake. I made her a butterfly shaped smash cake and a matching butterfly cake for the big cake. She was totally weirded out by the smash cake and while she'd eat the cake off my fingers, she didn't want to touch it herself! We put her in the pool after which she thought was great until she tripped and landed face first in the water. Then she had enough.

I changed her into dry clothes and we visited a little more until she needed to go for a nap. It was a long day for her as she fell right to sleep!

One Year Ago...

July 18th at 10:30pm, my water broke. I was sitting on the porch and actually heard and felt and "pop" in my lower belly. Since my first labour lasted 84 hrs and my second labour lasted 24 hrs, I wanted sleep. So without saying anything, I convinced Lee we should go to bed.

Around 1:30am, July 19th, I woke up to contractions. Nothing serious, 10-15 minutes apart and very mild. Annoying enough though, that I couldn't sleep. Came downstairs to do some reading. Around 4am my contractions were still very mild but slightly stronger and around 10 minutes apart. I took a bath (which btw, didn't seem to affect my labour at all, no change in pain or relaxation, so obviously a water birth is not the way to go for me.

Continued relaxing on the porch reading my book. Since they were still quite mild, I figured I'd wait til at least 6am to wake everyone that way all could get a good night's sleep.

Around 7am I actually had to start stopping what I was doing to breathe through contractions... time to wake everyone up. Went to wake up Lee and told him the baby was coming. I went to wake up Brianna and got hit by my first hard contraction. I actually had to sit down for that one! Brianna was great, getting up with no argument and packing an overnight bag to go to Auntie Lisa's.

Suddenly my contractions were 5 minutes apart and I had to lean on something to breathe hard through them. Lee called mom to drive us to Ottawa. She showed up at 8:30am and we left. All of a sudden it felt like the baby was bearing down and I felt the need to cross my legs tight during contractions so she didn't pop right out! The pain in my back was so intense, I knew right away, back labour again (same as Brianna). For that matter, my back hurt more than my belly during contractions!

As we were hitting the edge of town I couldn't take it any more. I told my mom we weren't going to make it to Ottawa, to pull over and call for help. My mom immediately picked up the phone to dial 911. We pulled into the truck stop on the way out of town at 8:41am. My mom told Lee that the 911 dispatcher wanted him to check if I was crowning (thankfully maternity shorts are easy to pull off even sitting in the car!), nope, nothing yet.

After what seemed like an eternity, the ambulance showed up. We had to wait through a few contractions until I felt ok enough to get out of the car, onto the stretcher. Lee and I went into the ambulance and my mom went to drive Brianna back to my house to be watched by the neighbour, then come back to the hospital.

I remember the ambulance guy trying to take off my watch. He couldn't figure it out. Thankfully I am never without my watch so took it off for him even through a contraction with my eyes closed. He said he needed to insert an IV in case they needed to do a C-section. I laughed at myself then, knowing the baby didn't need one, she was on her way out with every passing second!

We got to the hospital at 8:54am. A nurse in the ER came up and I remember her taking half a second to lift the gurney sheet to check for crowning and all of a sudden there was yelling and we were being rushed upstairs.

After what seemed like an hour, I was settled into a bed in the delivery room and the nurse asked if I wanted to push. I told her "for quite some time now!". She said I could go ahead but I insisted on having my legs held, they put up the leg stirrups. Even in my pain induced fog, I knew that wasn't enough. Sure enough, one push, baby crowned and I almost kicked the nurse in the head! This time, a nurse grabbed the leg Lee wasn't holding. Pushed again, Olivia Christiane was here at 9:01am!

My mom showed up about 5 minutes later, even beating the dr by 10 minutes! She was disappointed to miss the birth as she had been there for the others, but Olivia was in too much of a hurry! Olivia weighed in at 6lbs 7.5oz and was 18.5in long.

Lee later told me that she was born face down. I told him that was normal but very strange since I thought I had back labour (in which the baby would have been face up). I guess my back is just that messed up, that even with a normal labour and delivery, I'm gonna feel like my back is being ripped off. Let's hope I don't have actually back labour next time!!!

Slight Break in the Heat

Instead of it being 45C, it's 35-40C. Not much, but something. I've taken to taking cold showers every afternoon at the peak heat. Poor Olivia's been running around and sleeping in nothing but a onsie. Brianna's in the pool for hours a day. Lee's finally getting some relief at work. As of tomorrow he's allowed to wear shorts to work! YAY! I'd die if I had to wear jeans like he always has.

Isaac's birthday is coming up on Friday and Olivia's in Monday. We're having a big birthday visit this weekend. That reminds me... I need blue icing dye for his cake! We've had some RSVPs for Olivia's birthday, but Lee's still worried most of his family won't show up.

Olivia's been sick. She just got over Roseola and a fever of 105F and now she's got some kind of stomach bug, poor baby. She's not really eating, but thankfully she's still drinking/nursing a lot. Brianna's got some random cough but nothing else.

Happy Canada Day!

yesterday.....

I was much too tired after the festivities to post last night so here we are!

Canada Day started out as a normal day since nothing goes on in the mornings. So Brianna had her schoolwork, Olivia had nap, then we had lunch. THEN it was time to pull out the Canada Day fun! We got dressed in our Canada Day outfits (or just red clothes in mine and Lee's case), tattoos applied (even for Olivia!), hair done up (well, Lee wouldn't let me do his lol) and off we go!

We went down to the park where Brianna saw those big blow up playground things. We said she couldn't go cause the lines were miles long! Maybe later. We saw Auntie Lisa at her volunteer post in the bingo tent and then went to see some petting zoo animals. Brianna was thrilled to feed them and even saw a pink chicken (her fave!). Olivia wasn't too sure about these big animals but she was keeping a close eye on them!

We went back to the house for Olivia to nap and Brianna went 2 doors down to play with some kids visiting. Lisa and Steph showed up for BBQ and fireworks. After the baby woke up Lee took her for a bit of a walk, when he came back he said the lines at the blow up things we're a lot shorter so he'd take Brianna back. Unfortunately the reason they were so short was because they were about to close :( Poor Brianna

We did up a huge BBQ and sat around chatting waiting for the fireworks. I put Olivia down and she actually went down easy so I figured great! No problems later. WRONG! I went inside to get a drink at 9:30pm and she must have heard me and woke up and started fussing. I sent Lee up to try to get her back down, what does he do? Brings her outside! So Olivia got to see her first fireworks. She was totally enthralled! I figured the loud noise would scare her but no way!

Thankfully once all was done we had no problems putting the girls to bed. I was pooped! I went straight to bed and I think I fell asleep before my head hit the pillow.
